Change

Change can be defined as a verb or as a noun.  Change as a verb requires something being done differently to how it has  previously been done.  Or it can refer to replacing something or someone.

As a noun it refers to an act or process through which something becomes different.  Or what’s left from a monetary transaction.

Why do some of us crave change whilst others of us fear it?  Is it really the unknown or is it the new found responsibility put upon us to make it work?

Excuse the cliche but change is inevitable. Whether or not we instigate it or it happens outside of our control.

So how do we handle change or use it to propel us to the next steps in life that the universe has invited us to participate in?

1. Identify the fear or anxiety around the change.
2. Through prayer, meditation and reflection identify what can be done to mitigate its effects for our benefit.
3. Are there people in our circle who can help support us – don’t be afraid to ask
4. Draw up a plan of things that we can control – and be clear what steps we need to take to take control.
5. What we can not control – commit to God in prayer and expect him to answer us IN ANY WAY HE CHOOSES
6. What changes do we need to make: thoughts, words, time management, spending habits, education, new boundaries in relationships …
7. Write it all down and give ourselves clear timeframes that we can work towards and adapt as needed (timeframes are supposed to keep us accountable- not to become cruel task masters)

And so my sunshines herein ends this months reflection.

Whilst change is inevitable how it impacts us doesn’t have to be.

Complacency

Complacency is defined as: ‘ a feeling of smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievement’

I wonder, as we begin to wind up 2022 in which areas have you and I become complacent?

In which areas have we allowed the slow steady grip of complacency to wind its web around areas of our life, to the extent that we have come to accept it as ‘our new normal’?

Areas in our life that we have accepted, that it need not and therefore can not change.

Growth, challenge and change is the natural course of life, and if we don’t change we eventually become obsolete.  Of no use, a relic or an era long gone, to be forgotten.  A distant memory, a faint whisper of all that has long past.

I pray my friend that before this year expires we take the time and attention to critical evaluate our vision, our focus, our relationships, practices and promises that we have allowed to stagnate and become complacent.

Areas where we no longer offer challenge and criticism of the mediocre, lacking the focus and the vision of all we were created to be.

‘The complacency of fools will slay them, but whoever listens to wisdom will dwell safely’

Let us reject complacency in all its forms and ask for the wisdom to grow and change, day by day.

Well that’s all folks!  Look forward to seeing you next month xxx

Today I woke up thinking about ‘Seasons’.

Everybody knows that different seasons have different characteristics and require different responses.  For example, what we wear, what we do, where we go etc.

We would never wear a luxurious winter coat in the height of summer, regardless of how beautiful it was – the effect could result in us ending up in hospital with heat stroke!

We wouldn’t wear shorts and T-shirt in the depth of winter, again we would probably end up in hospital, again.

Another thing that changes depending on what season we are in, is what we eat.  Typically we don’t over indulge in chocolate cake just before a trip that involves wearing a bikini or speedo’s.

So, my question to you, my friend is …

What season are you in?

Do you have the courage to accept that season and all that it is going to involve?

What do you need to put on?  Courage, focus, determination, self-compassion …

What do you need to do? Go to bed earlier so you can start the day properly in prayer, meditation, or with exercise.  Perhaps you need to make that appointment or have that difficult conversation.

Where do you need to go? Perhaps it isn’t a physical location, but an emotional one, or perhaps a spiritual one.

Are you indulging in something now,  that you know down the road you are going to regret – because you will not be ready to express your ‘best’ self in that up-coming change of position or environment?

It takes real courage and focus to recognise the season you are in, and not ignore it or try and pretend you are in the season you want to be in.  But once we recognise the season we are in, it behoves us to learn what is needed for such a time as this.

Although, only knowing what we need to do in this season, isn’t enough, we must do what is necessary.  Otherwise it will be like building a house on sand, once the elements of life begin to crash in, it will collapse and all our good intentions and hard work will crumble before our eyes, with nothing left to show for it. Cutting corners and taking the easy way, will always cost you more in the long run.

Let me say that again, if only for my benefit.  Cutting corners and taking the easy way, will always cost you more in the long run.

Instead, let’s put into practice what needs to be done so that our lives are built on something of greater substance, our lives built on a rock that can withstand the elements of life.  Those inevitable situations that have the potential to rob us of who we were created to be.

Well that’s all folks!  Look forward to seeing you next month xxx
